You may have noticed, if you have read the latest posts carefully, but I have to admit we crossed over to the veggie side of life. I won't get in to the details of why here. If you are curious and want to talk feel free to email. We have found it to be rather difficult to obtain good "hearty meals" and lunches that fit in with "the new program". What we have found is the following:
Leona's at 111th and Western has quite a few dishes that work for us. We find that chain restaurants generally have more veggie options and that local restaurants often do not. Of course there is always an option at Italian, Greek, Indian and Mexican Restaurants. We have found veggie style sandwiches which are very tasty! We like the veggie subs at
Subway and Jimmy John's. We love the veggie burrito or tacos at
Chipotle Restaurants we get them over filled with rice, black beans, fajita style veggies, regular veggies and guacamole,(my little girlfriend and I get sour cream & cheese, yummmmie!) Independent Mexican burrito shops need to take a que from Chipotle and put more stuff in the veggie burrito. I crave the roasted veggie sandwich on focaccia bread at
Portillo's. Its piled high with roasted peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and potatoes and is really tasty! I am working on getting
Calabria to create a signature veggie sandwich,(I have suggested they call it The Venetian Veggie, but I think they think I'm crazy and I always forget how we made it the last time). I believe it should be cooked sweet peppers, grilled onions, tomatoes and breaded eggplant(from the eggplant Parmesan), piled on a french roll with a little marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese if you like. Sounds good! Overall, it amazes me that when we order things without meat that restaurants do not pile on the veggies in place, because inevitably they charge the same price. All of this has not tempered my enthusiasm for dining out, just has made it a little more interesting and a lot more challenging! If you have any ideas or suggestions please comment!
