Jack Gibbons Garden in Oak Forest

I could have gone anywhere for my birthday dinner and I chose Jack Gibbons Garden at 14700 S. Oak Park Avenue in Oak Forest, 708-687-2331. How old do you ask? Not telling!!! Why Jack Gibbons do you ask? I'll tell you! This is the quintessental old fashioned Steak House/Supper Club! I met my family in the large comfortable bar area, enjoyed a classic cocktail with my Mom & Sis,(Kahlua & cream, blended in a blender, a requirement of my mothers, whipped into a smooth creamy concoction), they had Cutty Sark,(a fav of my Fathers), and a good beer selection,(for the Hubby). My young Daughter was perfectly comfortable and welcome in every way. The dining room is spacious with deep, comfy chairs and not too noisy,(something appreciated by my parents). The food of course was excellant. From the prime rib that my sis ordered, the envy of my husband who never knows what to order and says he always gets the wrong thing, to the tasty ribs, tender chicken kiev and buttery halibut everyone enjoyed their entre. You have to get the garlic mashed potatoes and the fresh warm bread served with the meal melts in your mouth. We took our time, they sang happy birthday and we had a very relaxing and enjoyable evening! One of the best parts was the bill at the end that was surprisingly low! Why travel downtown when we have this Established, Time Tested, Landmark Restaurant so close by!

I "Relish" My Experience at Ken's Restaurant!

If you want to experience a local, old fashoined restaurant with great service, home cooked food and a comfy atmosphere, this is the place! Stop in at Kens at 105th & Western. The big deep, round booths in the bar are a fun place to sit, you feel as if Frank Sinatra is going to walk in any minute. The dining room is also comfortable, you are guaranteed to see a neighbor or two or three.. The waitresses are from the area and have been there for years! The dinner starts with the classic complimentary relish tray sampler and the famous tomato bread. There are always specials that take basic dining up a notch. The corned beef & cabbage is a hit with the locals all year round. So when you want a home cooked meal in a friendly, intimate atmosphere this is the place to go!
